15 Minute Challenge

I didn't get my 15 minutes in each day but for the days I did sew or work on a craft, I spent way more than that. Here's how my week played out:

And three makes six

That's how many 501 Project blocks I've sewn so far this week.

Corn and Beans

Duck and Ducklings

Grand Right and Left

Fortunately I love the process because the blocks are taking longer and longer to complete.  When I started the project, I purposely chose the easier blocks first but the blocks are getting progressively more complicated.  A good share of the remaining blocks use one or two templates in addition to rotary cut pieces.  I  need to sit down and trace the templates from the book and mount them on cereal boxes to make the templates.

Hope you had a good day.

What color is it?

I'm having a hard time deciding if the fabrics I've used for these latest blocks are maroon or burgundy.  They are not brown even though it may look like it.  The second photo most accurately reflects the true color.

Crown and Star

I'm out of practice at piecing the blocks for the 501 Project but here's the latest block.

Crown and Star
That brings the total blocks completed to 234.  Only 267 more to go.  I think it may be a little early to start planning my next long term project.

Hope you have a good day.

Black Friday

So many people out shopping...at least from what I can tell by the traffic outside my window.  Not me.  I am NOT crazy.  Although...JoAnn's is having some great sales...very tempting.  Instead, I stayed home and put up my Christmas tree and other decorations.  Here's the tree with the tree skirt I made.

Hope you had a good day.

15 Minute Challenge

This was by far a much more productive week than last week.  I sewed 6 out of 7 days.  I have to admit that I've spent an enormous amount of time playing with MyMemories Suite Scrapbook software.  I've created a couple of headers and backgrounds to be added to my blogs after Thanksgiving, put together a video and helped my mother to design a Christmas card. She wants me to print it and send it to her for Christmas.  She's not at all computer literate so she was very impressed with the project.  Anyway, back to the Challenge.  I created this report knowing that cooking is what many of you will be doing this week.  Not me.  Yay! I'm going to my daughter's for a huge feast.  I love Thanksgiving.

Hope you had a productive week too.  To see how others did on their 15 Minute Challenge, visit Life in Pieces.

Bet you thought I forgot

But I didn't.  I've finished another 501 Project block.  It's ever so slow going this time of year but I keep plugging along.

Making Ornaments

I saw a tutorial on someone's blog last week but I completely forgot to bookmark it or note whose it was.  It showed how to make three-sided Christmas ornaments.  I made a couple from memory.

As I thought about how those ornaments were assembled, I figured I could use the same technique on some of the hexies I've made.  With the sides stitched together, they look like bells (minus the jingle).   I suppose I could add it later.

Hope you have a good day.

Sewalong Finished

The Christmas Sewalong is finished now after eight weeks.  Here's what the intended final result was supposed to be:

But I had a different idea.  I needed a tree skirt.  I used the you-tube video How to Make a Custom Christmas Tree Skirt as a guide to make mine.

I think it's going to look great under my Christmas tree.

Hope you have a good day.

Zentangle Challenge #48

The diva's guest this week is Sue Clark of Tangled Ink Art.  Sue's challenge was use 'Tri-Shapes' -circle, square and triangle- as our string.  We were also encouraged to 'tri' new tangles.

15 Minute Challenge

I had a hard time getting motivated to sew this week.  I brought Little Girl home with me on Wednesday to stay overnight.  Thursday I spent most of the day getting my car registered and inspected.  Friday, my daughter fixed my birthday dinner and carrot cake.  Saturday and Sunday, just plain lazy and Monday I spent the day shopping, cooking and going to a Weight Watchers' meeting.  We won't talk about how much weight I've gained since the last meeting I attended.

Perhaps it's time to admit my real reason for lack of sewing.  Frustration. Disappointment.  It was my intention that this Christmas would be a homemade Christmas but I think I started too late.  I've been feeling very pressured.  As a start, I intended to make a few pairs of fleece pants for Little Girl.  So I bought a pattern on sale.  She's currently wearing 18-24 months size.  I had some fleece leftover from another project so I sat down and got started.  I chose to sew size 2.  Apparently 24 months and size 2 aren't quite the same.  She might be able to wear them in about 4 years.  I gave up.  I went online and ordered a couple fleece outfits that I know will fit, are coordinated, were less expensive and absolutely no frustration.  I intended to make fleece pants for the other grandchildren too but I'm just not up for it.  Maybe next year.

Still having made that decision, I just couldn't make myself sit down to sew.  But I'm getting excited about all Christmas ornaments I'm seeing on other blogs.  I bought my tree last year about 3 days before Christmas.  Needless to say, I didn't have much choice for ornaments so I ended up with silver and blue balls.  It was my first full-size tree in about 11 years.  Even though the tree was pretty, I'm hoping to add some cute ornaments this year.

So now that I've confessed all, here's to a more productive sewing week this week.

Zentangle Challenge #47

This week's challenge from I am the diva  is 'Lest We Forget' in honor of 'Remembrance Day'.  My entry is in remembrance of Judy Hopkins.  I just learned from Carolyn at Lee Prairie Designs that Judy passed away in March 2011.  Her book '501 Rotary-Cut Quilt Blocks' is the inspiration for my blog and the 501 Project.  Before purchasing her book, I'd only made quilts using templates.  I know - behind the times!  Judy wrote and co-authored 18 design and pattern books.  Here's my entry based on one of the blocks in her book.

15 Minute Challenge

My friend Kate says there are 46 days until Christmas.  Oh no!  So.....I guess I'll be doing a lot of sewing, knitting and crochet that's Christmas related.  I won't be showing many photos because some of the recipients read my blog.  My daughter gave me a great idea for her children's gifts.  Last year I gave them quilts and have been having a hard time coming up with an idea to top that.  I wanted to do something handmade but I also wanted it to be something useful.  I think this idea will work out well.

Here's how this last week has played out:

More embroidery

I've finished two more embroidery pieces.  This seventh and final block in the Christmas Sewalong can be found here.

Next week, our host, SewHappy.Me will be giving us instructions to complete the project.

The following piece is a free pattern found at Homeberries.com.  There are a number of free patterns to choose from.

I purchased a package of variegated DMC floss a couple months ago and have been experimenting with it ever since.  It doesn't work in every situation but it does add interest.

Hope you had a good day.

Zentangle Challenge #46

This week's theme from I am the diva was 'All Hallow's Eve'.  This is my entry:

Challenge #46 All Hallow's Eve

Poor thing!  It looks like she has duck feet.  Starting this coming week, I'm going to try to incorporate some new tangles.  It'll take a little more time but I think I'll be happier with the results.  My drawings are looking pretty samo-o, same-o to me.  To see other entries for this week's challenge, visit I am the diva.

Yesterday, while visiting my daughter, I was able to attach the quillow pockets to the grandchildren's quilts.   It took us some practice to master folding them.

I think the feature they like the best is that they have a place to tuck their feet so they don't become uncovered.

I also finished this embroidery.  I got the free pattern from homeberries.com. They have quite a few free patterns to try.  I've finished a few others but I used variegated floss in some areas and am not happy with the result.  I plan to do a little unsewing.

Hope you have a good day.
