Easier Blocks

I've been attacking the blocks according to the list I made up a week or so ago.  Three of today's blocks had less than 25 pieces - a pleasant break.  This first one, however had 69 pieces.  It not only takes longer to cut but also to put together.  But I do love the look of the more complicated ones.

Who Knew?

Out of curiosity, I sat down last night and tallied the pieces for all of the blocks in the book 501 Rotary-Cut Quilt Blocks by Judy Hopkins that I've been using for the 501 Project.  It took awhile and my numbers may be a little off but basically I've completed  341 blocks or 10,535 pieces.  I have 160 blocks or 6,335 pieces left to do.  The grand total for the project:  16,870 pieces  Would these numbers encourage or discourage you?

With a lot of luck and hard work, I'm hoping to be done with the 501 Project by the end of the year.  I'm keeping my eyes open for another long term project.  Any ideas?

Here are the four blocks I completed today.  This first one looks totally different than in the book because I used two dark fabrics instead of a light and dark.  I'm not that crazy about it but I'm sure it'll find it's way into something.

New Waterwheel

This next one is another where I experimented with the fabrics.  In the book, the brown would have been a light color and the orange pattern would have been a dark.  Another funky one.

337 Blocks Completed

Yesterday I headed out to camp with plans to stay out there for a few days.  I kitted five blocks to take with me to be sewn on my old machine that I keep there.  The weather turned out wet and overcast so I was able to piece all five.  Today the weather wasn't much better and doesn't look to be for the rest of the week.  So I came home.  Now I'll be able to work some more on the 501 Project.

When I'm at camp, I only have internet service through Cellular Data on my iPad.  Unfortunately, I don't know how to blog on my iPad and I'm unable to upload my photos from my camera because it won't interface with the iPad.  So, long story short, I wanted to blog about my progress but also to bring your attention to an upcoming Dots on Dots Blog Hop that I'll be participating in.  There's one more day to sign up.  It's sponsored by Madame Samm and hosted by Corrie of Quilt Taffy.  Watch for it Sept 10 - 20.

Hope you have a good day.

I'm a Winner - again

I won this very cute paper pieced pattern book with a sewing room theme from SewCalGal last week.  It arrived in the mail today.

I can't wait to try out some of the patterns, maybe use some for gift-giving.

I managed to piece together four more blocks today.  I think this first one would have looked better if I had used fabrics with more contrast.  It just looks like a muddled mess to me.  Definitely not a favorite.

I wrote the other day about how I was going to make the blocks in the order I listed them.  This block was the first one of the day.  It has 68 pieces and took 3hrs 15min from choosing fabrics to completion.  It doesn't look that difficult but there are a lot of steps to putting it together.  Or maybe I'm just slow.  Even so, it was worth the effort.

Even though this next one has 69 pieces, it didn't take anywhere near the amount of time to piece as the first one did.

Lois' Star

This one was so simple but I spaced out and ended up having to 'unsew' one of the panels and attach it the correct way.  That's what happens when you don't pay attention.

London Roads

On this one I wanted the upper left triangle to be orange but I cut the piece too short and didn't have any more to try again.

London Square

Frustrated, I finished the block and called it quits for the day.  I put everything away and vacuumed instead.  After so many days of sewing, it sure needed it.  I feel so much better now.

Hope you had a good day.

I'm a real winner....

Carol of Just Let Me Quilt had a giveaway last week and I won.  Here are the prizes that came today.  The moda Happy H"owl"-o-ween charm pack by Deb Strain and a cute door hanger.

These are just a few of the patterns.  So cute!

 And.....I finished three more blocks.
