Foto Finish - Words

I live alone in a one bedroom, 600-something square foot apartment.  I try very hard not to be envious of those who have lovely sewing rooms/studios.  I'm not complaining or looking for sympathy, mind you.  I do more crafts/sewing in my small space than anyone I know.  A picture is worth a thousand words.

Kitchen table:  sewing machine, ironing board, work table

Livingroom:  yarn being spun, blocks waiting to be sewn, handmade paper, watercolor painting and journal under weight, knit socks and crochet afghan in progress, zentangle supplies/books

Bedroom:  painted foil to be made into beads, supplies in room and closet

Hallway:  design wall

What can I say?  I like to keep busy.

Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong.  I have a three room studio where I can eat, sleep and shower.  I'm very lucky.

Zentangle Challenge #61 " UMT v.II"

On the first Monday of the month, Laura Harms, the diva, gives us the challenge 'Use My Tangle' (UMT) and chooses a tangle for us, created by one of us.  This week's tangle is Golvin by Mariet of Studio ML.  The tangle should resemble waves.  I tried a number of times but mostly mine look like squished marshmallows or little tornadoes.  Only on the last one does it begin to resemble waves.   I think the general shape is close but the shading is a little off.  And of course, I always try to see 'what would happen if''.  I had fun drawing them.  That's what counts, right?  Each is drawn on my handmade paper.

15 Minute Challenge

Here's how this past week worked out:

You can see the three blocks I finished for the 501 Project here and I'm still working along on the blue socks.  What I'm most proud of this week is the counted cross stitch project I finished.  I've started a few over the years but I can't remember any that I've finished.  I found this kit a few weeks ago when I was organizing my sewing stuff.  I don't know if I bought it or if it was given to me but I've always loved bird houses so this is perfect.

Finished with the Pink Family

On Friday I cut out three new blocks on the 501 Project and sewed them together yesterday.  This gives me six blocks in this 'pink' family of fabrics.  That's the number of blocks I sew to make lap quilts.  Sometimes I sew a seventh block so I can attach a pocket to make it a quillow.  I don't think I'll make the quilt just yet but the blocks are there when I want them.

Foto Finish - Growing

This week's optional theme is 'Growing'.  Initially I was going to look for a photo of plants growing.  Then I thought I'd use a couple of Little Girl, one at birth and now at 17 months.  But what I've chosen is even more unbelievable to me.  Last weekend, my daughter, granddaughter and I took a little shopping trip to JoAnn's then went to a Mexican restaurant for lunch.  This is the photo I took of Jess, my oldest granddaughter who just turned 16 years old and my daughter, Corey, who is turning 40 this month.  Seems like only yesterday they were babies.  Where did the time go?

Commitment

I'm one of those people who avoids commitment.  It's not that I'm lazy.  I like to keep busy with multiple projects and usually short-term because I need 'instant' gratification.  The 501 Project is a long term commitment.  But lately I've been feeling a little overwhelmed with the project and wonder why in the world I took it on.  I just haven't wanted to work on it.  I tentatively set a deadline to finish sometime in 2014.  That gives me plenty of time to do other stuff too.  This morning I was feeling guilty and pressured because I haven't worked on the project in a week or so.  But I talked myself down by recognizing that it won't hurt anything or anyone if it takes me ten years to finish.  Having let myself off the hook, I felt better and decided to do some prep work.  I selected the next 30 blocks I want to make and chose the fabrics.  Now I'm ready to cut the blocks when the urge hits me.

I feel so much better.

Hope you have a good day.
