Tuckered out

I've worked hard all day and this is all I have to show for it...........

County Fair

Diamond Plaid

They each have 77 pieces.  Phew!  I'm running low on these fabrics so I have to choose blocks with small pieces.  Ignore the poor pressing on the Diamond Plaid......although it does give a little movement to the block doesn't it?

Hope you had a good day.

I'm so happy!

This morning I placed an ad on Freecycle, wanting some perennial plants for the hillside at camp.  I bought quite a few plants a few weeks ago but they did little to fill up the space and were expensive.  I was able to pick up some lilies, sedum and mums today from one lady then took them out to camp and planted them.  Some time over the next few days, I'll be able to pick up a large number of Irises, Lilies, Snow on the Mountain, phlox and bleeding hearts.  They should round out the hillside perfectly. a substantial savings.  Yay!

In between running here and there with the plants, I was able to complete 3 more blocks on the 501 Project.

Hope you had a good day too!

Zendala Dare #11

I can't tell you how much I love doing zendalas.  They are so much fun!  Here's the zendala, Erin of The Bright Owl has drawn up for this week's dare:

And here's what I did with it:

Check out the link above for more entries in this week's Zendala Dare.

I sewed a pair of bloomers to go with Little Girl's dress and hat that I made last week.

Can't wait to see it on her.

Hope you had a good day.

Back from camp

This week I was able to go out to camp from Wednesday to Sunday.  What a relaxing time!  It was very warm (90's) Wed-Fri so I basically spent all three days reading in front of the fan.  I read 4 books and have started a 5th.  Now why is it that I can get so much reading done at camp and hardly ever at home?

Saturday, my DS, DIL and Little Girl came out to camp to continue building my new deck.  It was 4x8 before and in much need of repair, as you can see from last year's photos.

Now it's 8x8, so beautiful and safe.  They were unable to finish due to a late day thunderstorm but today I spent a wonderful day enjoying the deck as it is.

Before heading out to camp, I was able so sew another block for the 501 Project.

Hope you've had a great weekend.

Some finishes

I wasn't able to go out to the camp this weekend for various reasons so it was a good time to do some sewing.  I bought some fabric at 50% off a couple weeks ago to make a sundress and matching hat for Little Girl.

The photo doesn't really show the true pink color or the yellow centers of the flowers but it's really very cute.

As I was organizing some of my sewing stuff, I ran across some green blocks I finished last December as part of the 501 Project.  I'd forgotten all about them.  So I paired them up with my most recent green blocks and this is the top I came up with.  It measures 40 x 53.

I haven't decided if I want to add a border or not.  I just need to pick up some backing fabric and batting and I'll be ready to finish it.

Hope you have a good day.

Zendala Dare #10

Erin of The Bright Owl issued the first 'Zendala Dare' in April.  I didn't find out about it until last week.  Things were pretty busy and I wasn't able to join in until this week.  Below is this week's blank zendala to be used as our template.

This is what my entry looks like:

It seems a little busy to me but I just love doing zendalas, the repetitiveness of it.  To see other entries, check out Zendala Dare #10.  To read about the guidelines, visit Zendala Dare

The next set of quilt blocks for the 501 Project are made with 4 or 5 colors.  These aren't my normal color choices but they're coordinated based on the flowered fabric.

Scot's Plaid

Stepping Stones

Hope you have a good day.

Zentangle Challenge #74 - Eccentric Circles

The challenge this week is to use eccentric circles as our string.  To go a bit further, I tried to draw curvy or circular tangles.

To see other entries in this week's challenge, visit Laura Harms at I am the diva.

For the past few days, I've been busy putting together a quilt from some of the blocks I created previously for the 501 Project.  The individual blocks can be seen herehere and here.  I quilted it with the leaf-shaped motif as demonstrated by Frances Moore in January of SewCalGal's Free-Motion Quilt Challenge.  The quilt finishes at 46.5 by 46.5.

Hearts and Roses

I even stitched my signature in one of the borders.  It took me quite awhile to find it again.

Hope you have a good day.

On a roll...

It seems that since I've had my little break, I just can't stop myself from sewing.  Here are 4 more blocks for the 501 Project.

Single Chain and Knot

Spinning Tops

Split Nine Patch

The Hen and Her Chicks

Hope you had a good day.

Sewing fun

In anticipation of sun, I made a sun hat for Little Girl.  These are the sun hats from last year.  I had to tinker around with the pattern to enlarge it and made it with some fabric I had around.  If it's the right size, I'll probably purchase some 'fun' fabric and make a few more.  Otherwise I'll keep adjusting the pattern until I get it right.  I put the ties on this year.  We'll see how she does with them.  I may have to leave them off any others.

I've started a new color scheme for this next set of blocks.  I'll be making two color blocks for the next little while.

Spring and Fall

Hope you had a good day.

Zentangle Challenge #73 and more

It's been awhile since I participated in the Zentangle Challenges hosted by Laura Harms at I am the diva.  This week's challenge is to use the tangle Bridgen.  Here's my entry:

To see other entries, visit the diva's link above.

I've finished 3 more blocks on the 501 Project.  This first one I actually sewed yesterday after I blogged about the others.  I like how it plays tricks on your eyes.

Harmony Square

This next one was a real pain in the you-know-what.  I had a really difficult time sewing the center bars.  The first time around I had to keep unsewing and resewing because I couldn't get the hang of where to start the stitching because of the angles.  The resulting bars were 1/4 inch too long.  So I re-cut the pieces, thinking that I'd cut them incorrectly the first time and tried again.  This time it went much easier but still they were too long.  I checked the sizes of all the other pieces and they were cut correctly too.  So I did a little creative trimming and called it close enough.  It took me a couple hours (I'm slow) to complete the block.  I rewarded myself with a bowl of Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Extra Creamy Fat Free ice cream.  I love the stuff.  I've been cutting as much fat from my diet as possible over the past two months in response to my cholesterol test.  I also like Hood's Fat Free Frozen Yogurt, the Strawberry and the Blueberry flavors.  I tried the Mocha Fudge but didn't care for that.  I ate it anyway.  Last week I tried Ben & Jerry's Vanilla Heath Bar Crunch, which was my all time favorite back when I didn't care about fat, just to see if I still liked it but found it was heavy and now actually prefer the fat-free.  Oops!  Off topic.  Here's the block:

Fields and Fences

I breezed through this last block without a problem.  I figured it was a good place to stop today.  On a positive note.

Hope you had a good day.

It's raining, it's pouring...

We've had rain for the past two days and the coming week isn't looking much better.  I took advantage of situation by sewing a few more blocks on the 501 Project.

The Silent Star
Sarah's Choice

Chinook has 71 pieces but I love the look of it.

Hope you had a good day.
