The Day Has Come

I've finished all the blocks in the book 501 Rotary-Cut Quilt Blocks by Judy Hopkins.  And way, way before I thought I would.  At the beginning of the year, I figured that at the rate I was going, I wouldn't finish until 2014.  But I've really pushed lately and today, I completed the 501 Project.  Yay me!

How did I celebrate?  I ate cake.  Actually, I baked the cake yesterday, in anticipation of the finish and of course I had to test it, so I should say that I ate more cake.  I also changed the header and background of my blog.

Here are the final blocks:

T Square

Temple Court

Toad in a Puzzle

Triangles

Washington Pavement

Waves of the Sea

The X

To further celebrate, I'm having a giveaway.  And what better way to finish with the 501 quilt blocks than to give away some of those blocks.  The blocks finish at 12 or 12.5 inches depending on the directions for that block.  I'm offering two groups of 7 blocks each.

Group 1:  Brown/Tan

Group 2:  Yellow Orange/Purple

You should be able to click on them to get a close up.  Just leave a comment telling me which group you'd like if you win and I'll try to accommodate.  I'll be drawing the winner on Nov. 6.

Hope you have a good day.

Camera Testing

This morning, very early, I purchased the Craftsy Online Class - Shoot It by Caro Sheridan - on sale for $14.99 (down from $49.99).  I bought a new point and click camera shortly after I started the 501 Project to be used primarily for the project.  For the most part I've been happy with the shots I've taken but there are some fabrics that just haven't photographed well.  I've played around with some after editing using the camera's software and most times I've been able to make the adjustments I want.  I can manually adjust most of the settings on the camera but I don't know what they are or what they do.  After watching the class, I started fiddling around with the settings.  Today's photos are the result of some changes.  The colors still aren't true but they'll do.  Maybe after the 501 Project is completed, I'll spend some time learning to take better pictures.

Here are five more blocks:

Mineral Wells

New Hour Glass

Odd Fellow's Cross

An Original Design

Red Cross

Hope you had a good day.

Productive Day

It started out with a trip to Motor Vehicle to renew my driver's license, followed by a trip to the bank to get quarters for laundry then to get a haircut.  For the rest of the day, I sewed while playing music or Star Trek Deep Space Nine, taking breaks to play Solitaire.  Here are the next six blocks.  The solid color blocks are dark brown and peach.  I tried to adjust the colors but I just couldn't get it right.

Ladies Aid Block

Malvina's Chain

Mill Wheel

Mosaic

Mosaic #3

Mosaic #10

Hope you had a good day.

Four More

I worked steadily all day but only finished four more blocks.  But two of them had 60-70 pieces so I guess that's something.  Thirty-three more blocks to go.

Jack in the Pulpit

Joseph's Coat

Kentucky Crossroads

Lincoln

Hope you had a good day.

Goldilocks?

I blogged early yesterday about some of my fabric choices then proceeded to make choices for these next six blocks.  Here's my take:

First block:  Coordinates but not enough contrast
Second block:  Lots of contrast, background too busy, doesn't coordinate as well as I hoped
Remaining blocks:  Coordinates well and enough contrast (Just Right)

The H Square Quilt

Hill and Crag

Home Circle

Imperial T

Indiana Puzzle

Indiana Puzzle II

Thank you for all your nice comments yesterday.  I'm finding that even those blocks or quilts I've made that I'm not crazy about, are loved by someone.  Variety is the spice of life.

Hope you have a great day.
