Heartbeat of Home

For Christmas, my daughter and family gave me tickets for 'Heartbeat of Home' dance performance from the producers of 'Riverdance'.  We saw it last night and the show was amazing.  If you get a chance to see it, I'm sure you'll love it.  Here's a glimpse:

Enjoy!

Another finish

I've finished quilting, binding and washing my latest quilt.  I'm not as crazy about it as I thought I would be.  I think it would have been nicer if I'd added a border.

I really like how the back turned out.  I purchased the backing a number of years ago at a very reduced price because it was printed askew.  The quilting pretty much camouflages that.

I have a hexie quilt top that's been waiting for quilting so I think I'll work on that next.  It's nice to have a few tops ready to go.

Hope you have a good day.

There's an app for that.

I'm going to start singing alto in my church choir instead of soprano but I don't read music.  I know how to go down when the notes go down and go up when they go up and soprano is usually the melody so I manage.  But I want to be able to do a better than that.  I can sing alto if someone sings the notes in my ear but......   Yesterday I went to the App Store and did a search for piano and found a couple of apps, one for free and one for .99, that allow for playing musical notes.  One of the apps tests knowledge of notes in a flash card sort of way.  So I went through a hymnal I bought recently and started marking up the alto notes of some of the hymns I know and pecking them out on the 'piano'.  It's exactly what I need.  And...one of the apps even allows recording so if I get to that point, I can sing along.  The apps are 'Piano Free' and 'Piano Notes'.  Very cool!

On the quilting front, I'm still quilting along.  I was originally quilting the flower design trying to wiggle varying size flowers into all those wierd areas.  But after some struggle, I decided to use vine type squiggles to get by those areas instead.  I'll have to go back to some of the areas already quilted to add some vines so it looks more uniform but I'm much happier with it now.  There isn't anything worse than being dissappointed part way through the quilting stage.  With luck, I'll finish the quilting today.

Hope you have a good day.

Quilting In Progress

I debated what quilting design to use for this quilt.  I thought about a number of ways I could do the individual blocks but decided I just wanted to quilt an allover pattern.  The first photo is my practice piece and the second is part of the quilt itself.

There was a time when I'd just keep going, quilting this size quilt in one day but lately I've been stopping when I get tired.  Sometimes I go back to it the same day but not so much lately.

Hope you have a good day.

What do you think?

I recently posted about a couple of quilts I'm donating to our church auction.  When I give away a quilt, I'm always at a loss about what to do about a label or if I should even add one.  Quite awhile ago, I created some care labels to put on the quilts but haven't used them very often.  These photos show both sides of the label.

When I make a quilt as a gift for a specific person, I make a dedicated label for that quilt.  Is it vain to add these care labels with my name and website printed on one side to quilts I give away.   I don't make quilts for hire so it isn't for advertising.  Am I too proud ?  This is always something I struggle with.  Maybe I should make new care labels.  Any thoughts?

Hope you have a good day.

I Need Spring!

This has been a really long, cold and snowy winter.  But I have hope.  Right now it's 42 degrees.  Heat wave!

A few weeks ago I posted the grandkids' bed with a blue plaid comforter.  I bought it mostly because I didn't want my grandson to have to sleep under a girly comforter.  But today I bought some cute girly bed linens.  This way they can choose what they'd like when they come to stay over.  And it gives me some variety too.

Looks like Spring!

Hope you have a good day!

Quilt top finished

I've worked pretty steadily over the past few days to piece and put together my latest quilt top.  I love the secondary patterns this block makes.

Hope you had a good day.

Musical chairs....

And Tables.  As I've been piecing these blocks, I've re-arranged things in the sewing room to make a few ergonomic work stations.  I haven't done any piecing since I bought the bed so there was a lot of trial and error.  But now I have a sewing table, ironing station and a layout station.  It should be fairly easy to put away when the grandchildren come.  I'll be putting it to the test on Sunday when Lily (3.5 yrs) comes to sleep over for the first time since she was an infant.

So....without further ado, here are today's blocks.  Don't ask why the photos are different sizes.

Hope you had a good day.

Woo Hoo!

At last I've finished the Sunbonnet Sue quilt.  Today I sewed on the binding, washed and dried it and it looks great.  I'm donating it and the one from last week to our church auction to raise money to send some kids to church camp.

I was able to move on to piecing a couple of the blocks I cut out a few days ago.

What a fun day!  Hope you had a good day too.

Slow Day

I'm almost finished quilting the white blocks on the Sunbonnet Sue quilt then I can get moving on the red ones.  I'm anxious to finish so I can start piecing the nine Double X #4 blocks I cut out last night.  I hate to put aside a quilt in progress because they're so difficult to get back to.

Bailey had his haircut last week after spending the winter shaggy.  He's so much more handsome and easier to maintain with the shorter cut.

Hope you had a good day.

I can be re-trained...maybe

Having taken such a long break from blogging, I'm finding just how much I've forgotten.  Starting with my camera and how to upload photos using WiFi to my iPad.  I had to pull out the manual....gasp!  I'm not sure that the photos will be any better than from my phone.  It's still a work in progress.

I've started quilting the Sunbonnet Sue quilt.  Here are the first two blocks:

I'm also testing out some different blogging and photo editing programs.  I don't know that the editing program is to blame but the photos are darker and less clear after they're posted.  Stay tuned.  I'm blogging from my iPad. If anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them.

Hope you have a good day.
